Brief Description of the Golf Course and/or Club: |
This picturesque and challenging seaside links course features elevated greens guarded by massive bunkers, significant water hazards, and perhaps the toughest stretch of finishing holes on Long Island. Sculpted from land between the Atlantic Ocean and Reynolds Channel, Lido's traditional links style offers challenging play in the midst of breathtaking beauty. This championship caliber course stretches over 6,900 yards and plays to a par 72.
The signature 16th hole, an option laden 485 yard par 5, requiring a double water carry, is the ultimate in "risk reward" golf. The left fairway is best for a lay up, the right fairway is riskier but holds better opportunities for birdie or eagle. |
History of the Golf Course and/or Club: |
An engineering marvel designed by architect Charles B. McDonald in 1914. This crown jewel of met-area golf served host to sectional qualifying for the 1925 U.S. Open. Following World War II, Robert Trent Jones redesigned the links course, maintaining its authenticity and toughness. |
